Pishima for being shunned from enjoying her life, Somlata for being a smart businesswoman and Boshon for being modern. The translation was what made it appealing to me. About the translation, Sinha's excellent translation gives you a glimpse into the original writing style of the author in Bengali. Bee Books, the publishers of this book are to be congratulated for accomplishing this task. The story shows stark changes in the way that these women live.

She illustrates perfectly the progress if you like, the generational and social differences and she is passed as a strong woman, who is not afraid to trying things that her previous generations wouldn't even think of.

Wanting to rectify sirsshendu situation, Somlata manages to raise enough money to set her husband up in a shop, a role he and his family at first resist but soon come to enjoy. When Pishima, the embittered matriarch dies, Somlata is the first to discover her body, and her sharptongued ghost, who tells her to hide her gold from the family's prying hands, which she does, and who keeps bugging her around the house with embittered advices.
Written with amazing feat. The elements of narration include magical super-naturalism - an old matriarch who was widowed at 12 and comes back to her parents' home dies but lives on as a ghost for a young daughter-in-law in the family. Every word and detail is calculated and integral to the beauty of the storytelling.
It is clear that egook should assume that Boshon is the reincarnation of Roshomoyee, who now has the chance to live the life she had baksno for.
It also tells the story of Somlata's daughter, Basoma and how she finds her identity and destiny. But the daughter-in-law remains steadfast in her determination to see her family wade through the bad times with hard work and entrepreneurship.
Also the sirshfndu development was rapid and doesn't let the readers get bored even for a minute. Is Boshon really Somlata's daughter or is ogynar some other mystery underlying that truth?
